This week has seen our current Prep students complete their transition session to their 2017 classes. The statewide Transition day occurred on Tuesday 6th December. All students in the school spent the morning with their 2017 classes and we had next year's Prep students attend until 1pm. This process is a fantastic opportunity for students to prepare themselves, their teacher, their friends and family about what to expect for the following year. The 1/2 Team will look as follows: Miss Brooke McKinley Miss Molly Murray Mrs Karen Marinelli Mr Jack Pidd Miss Maddie Ritchie and new staff member Miss Georgie Adams. **Due to building renovations, students were not able to be in their 2017 classrooms. As part of this process, our prep students were able to debrief with their current teachers when returning to their grades and shared their excitement and nerves about the reality of being a grade 1! See the photos to the left of some students delivering their letters! In addition to this process, we have structured our Writer's Workshop sessions around letter writing in the last few weeks and we have incorporated an area of work which has allowed students to write letters to their 2017 teachers. The Prep students gave these to the teachers and they were very excited to receive them! These letters included the following elements: - Who it is to... - Asking questions/Conversation... - How you are feeling about next year... - Something you feel you are good at/want to get better at... - Closing wishes - Who it is from... As the year draws to a close, it is important to ensure that each child feels safe, happy and comfortable in their new learning environment. This is important to all staff at our school and can be supported by strong preparation from home. Particularly for prep age students, the Summber break can be a very long one (not to mention for parents!). Regular conversations and 'play dates' with friends is one way to ensure that students continue the wonderful development they have made this year. Academically, please see the classroom teacher if you wish to support your students by giving tasks over the holidays. One option for this is StudyLadder, which students access with a password that has been given to them during the year. This has set tasks and is one option to ensure engagement of suitable ICT over the holidays. School reports are due home next Friday 16th December, if there is anything you wish to discuss about these after they have gone home, please make an appointment with your child's classroom teacher. And finally, the biggest THANK YOU to all of our Prep Parents and their families. We absolutely understand that your child's first year of school is one of the biggest occasions in their lives. We take our jobs very seriously, and thank you for trusting us to guide your children through this important year. We appreciate your ongoing support and conversations regarding the growth and development of your child. The positive experience of school would not be possible if we didn't have families involved. Thank you again, The Prep Team |
