Welcome
It has been a busy few weeks in the senior team, we have been involved in Lightening Premiership where we represented our school in Football, Netball, Volley Catch and T-Ball. We competed in our annual Athletics Day Carnival, NAPLAN and we showcased our masterpieces in our Science Expo!

Maths
It has been a big few weeks, the year 5’s have completed their NAPLAN tests and showed perseverance and excellence throughout! The students used their class time effectively to be well prepared for the tests, this was even noted by Mr McCredden. We have now moved on and are working on fractions. The students have shown an excellent initial understanding of the concept.

Reading
During our Reader's Workshop sessions, we have been applying our skills of summarising to create short paragraphs that describe what we have read. Focusing on the main points, main events, characters, settings and the key words in the text. This has allowed us to create well informed summaries.

Writing
In writing we have begun to study historical fiction. We have developed our understanding that we need to know it’s a made up story based on facts and events, understand the facts and events are true but the characters and settings are made up and finally to do effective research of the historical event that we would like to turn into a fiction story. We have begun to develop ideas that we will turn into entries. We will complete this unit of work with a published piece of Historical Fiction.

Inquiry
WHAT A SHOW!! Our Science Expo was incredible, we had dioramas, movies, posters and so much more to demonstrate our learning of Sustainability. Thank you to the families and friends that came to our Science Expo and if you couldn’t make it be sure to check out our new app SeeSaw so you can keep up to date with all the work and accomplishments that are being made in the 5/6 team!
The 5/6 students worked hard to produce some high quality pieces that represented positive effects of the natural environment.
