1/2 Team Blog Weeks 5 and 6

Hello to all of our wonderful 1/2 families and friends.

MATHS
We have been busy with place value the last 2 weeks in Maths. Students have been working hard to read, write and interpret 2, 3 or 4 digit numbers. We looked at the place value of ones, tens, hundreds, thousands and beyond. We played many learning games such as ‘Place Value Matermind’ and ‘Guess My Number’. Students in all classes did an excellent job of making their numbers using bundling and MAB blocks.
What is the number that has 3 hundreds, 2 tens and 7 ones?

READING
In Reading we have looked at the text structures and features of a variety of genres. Our 1/2 students are able to confidently discuss the difference between procedural texts, nonfiction texts and fictional stories. We got to look at these texts and investigate the features that make them different.

We read some great nonfictional texts about the environment to support us with our inquiry learning, as well as learning about the features. We learnt that nonfiction texts can be posters, stickers, books, magazines and articles.

WRITING and INQUIRY
In Inquiry, each student was asked to create something that would improve the environment. We all showed innovation and thought of some excellent ideas. As we were creating our projects, we were following the Writing Cycle to publish procedural texts of how to make our project. Each student has made their project, either a model or a poster and has recorded the Procedure they used to make it. This has been fantastic integrated learning and the students were very engaged with both the inquiry and writing side.
Stay tuned to hear about our finished projects!

Please let us know if there is any other information you would love to see in our blog from the 1/2 Team.

Well done 1/2 students on a very successful fortnight's worth of learning!

Arriveaderci,
Miss McKinley and the 1/2 Team.
