Wellbeing and Engagement Update

At CSPS all Students Shine

At CSPS, all our staff focus on using positive language when speaking to students, such as giving students constructive feedback, addressing behavior, creating an atmosphere for receptive listening, and guiding students in resolving conflicts. It also helps make all students feel included and accepted – an important quality in any educational environment.

At CSPS, we celebrate students for a range of skills, showing expected behaviours and participating in school challenges such as reading, eco challenge, colour fun run fundraising, cross country and the list goes on. This gives all our students the opportunity to shine.

Our CSPS SHINE Day is Wednesday August 13th which coincides with ‘Bullying No Way Week’. The theme for the day is wearing ‘PURPLE’ which symbolises peace, strength and standing up against bullying in a bold way. This could include wearing purple hair, accessories, socks, purple clothes or all the above! The gold coin donation will go to an organisation that supports young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thankyou to the over 200 families who attended our first Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday. It was a very successful day, and we hoped that you gained valuable insight into your children’s learning. Remember, you are always welcome to reach out to your child's teacher via Compass Connect.

Attendance – Top Attendance Tips for Parents

* Schools want to work in partnership with parents – act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child’s school and asking for advice and support

* Remember that every day counts

* There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness

* Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day

* Open and prompt communication with your child’s school about all absences is a good idea

* Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term

* Seek help from your school if you are concerned about your child’s attendance and wellbeing.

We will be distributing certificates in class to students who have managed to attend school at or above expected attendance levels for the first part of the year.

We will also draw a raffle at each assembly this term. A name will be drawn from each class, a student who had 100% attendance in the previous two weeks for a prize. This week’s assembly is P-2. As the space dome incursion is in the gym we will have the assembly in the Year 1/2 shared space.

We are also committed to supporting parents with parent education sessions. Next Monday 4th August, 6-7.30 pm. The session will be run by Drummond Family Services on ‘Parenting Young People Who Worry’.

Curriculum Update

DIP into DIP for 2026 Prep students Term 3

CSPS pride themselves in their extensive transition program for Preps. This term’s transition will include three Dip into DIP sessions for our 2026 preps:

Monday 11th August 2.30 – 3.25 pm

Monday 25th August 2.30 – 3.25 pm

Monday 1st September 2.30 – 3.25 pm

Parents are welcome to come along with their children and participate in these sessions whilst the new students get used to being in the school environment.

NAPLAN 2025

NAPLAN was conducted in term 1 this year and individual results were given out last week.

NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:

These are:

· exceeding

· strong

· developing

· needs additional support.

Students’ NAPLAN reports show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be in order to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child.

Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them – these results are about making sure every student gets the support they need so they can continue to get the most from their learning.

Management Update

New CSPS logo

Our school council Promotions sub committee have been busy working on a new logo for the school. The change occurred as we needed to update the look of the logo given new buildings and a new look for the school. The old logo had old values which aren’t current. We needed a logo that could be used even if the values change. We also wanted to not only reflect landmarks like the You Yangs, but Corio Bay, Griggs Creek and the beautiful plants and trees that surround us.

It will not mean you need to buy new uniform. Students will be permitted to wear uniform with the old logo on it. It can take 5-6 years before all the old uniform has moved on and all uniform has the new logo. When you purchase new uniform it will have the new logo.

We also have an additional uniform item should students and parents want them which is a school beanie. The idea was proposed by Year 5 & 6. The students, staff and school council voted on the preferred design. These will be available next week for $14. It is not compulsory just something to help students warm on cold days.

Buildings and Grounds Update

We hold Gardening Club on Thursdays this term 1.30 – 2.20 pm. If you are interested in coming and helping, you would be welcome (working with children check required). With the support of two committed parents and gardeners Carina and Rob Pytellek, the vegetable garden has been given a real boost this year.

This is the plan for the gardening club term 3 & 4.

Term 3 Garden Club:

  • continue watering/weeding current veggies beds and then harvest vegetables
  • continue creating compost bins/feeding worms
  • create and dig a garden bed along the other side of the fence (along the garden perimeter) for dwarf lavender seed planting
  • creating a mushroom grow box

Planting shade loving plants in front of the grade 3/4 classes including;

  • making cuttings from fuchsias/hydrangeas
  • plectranthus lavender root cutting planting
  • ferns
  • mondograss planting
  • potted orchids . The pots will also hopefully help create protected areas that wont be walked on by the kids.
  • clivia pup planting
  • native violet ground cover planting
  • dichondra kidney weed ground cover
  • soleirolia baby's tears ground cover

Term 4 Gardening club

Replanting the garden beds with;

artichoke, asparagus, basil, beans, beetroot, broccoli, carrot, celeriac, celery, cucumber, fennel, ginger, kale, kohlrabi, leek, lettuce, parsnip, radish, pumpkin, rhubarb, rocket, watermelon, zucchini, turmeric, tomato, sweet corn, swede, sun flowers, strawberries, squash, spring onion, spinach, silver beet.
