STEM
STEM education is the integration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In preparing students for the economy of the future it is noted that increasingly, employers are looking for workers who are creative problem solvers, innovative and critical thinkers, and who are able to use new technologies. STEM education at CSPS offers an exciting opportunity for inquiry learning through the integration of curriculum and a design thinking approach that is engaging and relevant to students.
Although schools are only required to report against Science from Grades 3 to 6, we have made a commitment to ensure our Prep to 2 students are exposed to Science teaching and learning experiences through STEM.
Art
The Art curriculum comprises of the strands Visual Arts and Arts Media. The program at CSPS includes the fields of art, craft, media and design. Students create visual art works that communicate, challenge and express their own and others’ ideas. Students utilise techniques, technologies, practices and processes with images, sound and text. Learning to appreciate and value the artwork of others is an integral part of our program.
Music
Music learning at CSPS combines listening, performing and composing. These skills, developed sequentially, enhance students’ capacity to perceive and understand music. As student’s progress in their study of Music, they learn to value and appreciate the power of music to transform the heart, soul, mind and spirit of the individual. In this way students develop an aesthetic appreciation and enjoyment of music.
Physical Education
Shaping our students into healthy, active people through daily opportunities to be physically active is a priority at CSPS. We believe the benefits of physical activity to be far-reaching, including both increased student physical health and better academic performance. Other benefits include:
- Building healthy bones
- Improving strength and endurance
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Helping control weight/reduces the risk of obesity
- Reducing feelings of depression
- Boosting self-esteem
- Promoting psychological well-being
Our Physical Education program is designed to prepare students for a healthy and active lifestyle through the development of skills, knowledge, teamwork and positive attitudes. Our comprehensive program provides children with a wide range of physical and sporting experiences focusing on the sequential development of fundamental motor and locomotion skills, gymnastics, dance, athletics, fitness and sport education.
Students improve their interpersonal skills by also increasing their own levels of motivation and pride in what they do. Success through team work is another major component of our PE program. The importance of exercise as a life-long habit and involvement in local sporting clubs is promoted.
Special Events
Special sporting events are scheduled throughout the year, and provide an opportunity for wider community involvement. Such events include, CSPS Cross Country Run, House Athletics Carnival, Jump Rope for Heart, Swimming Program, Inter-school sport for Year 5/6 students, Bike Education Program for Year 3/4 students, Healthy Hero’s program and various clinics run by experts that visit the school.
