The child is at the centre of all learning at Clifton Springs Primary School and learning sequences are developed with the needs, interests, skills and understanding of the child being the first consideration.

At Clifton Springs Primary School, we believe students learn best when they:

  • feel their contribution is valued
  • experience success
  • are responsible for their own learning
  • are actively involved in a variety of challenging learning experiences
  • are engaged in authentic learning opportunities

A comprehensive curriculum is implemented which aims to develop the potential of each student and all members of our learning community are encouraged to achieve their personal best. At CSPS we believe that the child is at the centre of all learning. We recognise the contemporary world they live in and the importance of preparing students to be active and critical citizens in a technological world.

The CSPS learning community nurtures an environment in which students are encouraged to personalise their learning through goal setting, student choice and collaborative learning. A broad, balanced and innovative curriculum is offered, which is academically challenging and focuses on the development of fundamental skills, understanding and knowledge in the core learning areas, with a particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Through targeted, open-ended and differentiated learning experiences, teachers provide structure and support for students that allow them to move to the next level of learning, appropriate to their stage of development.

A growth mindset underpins all learning at CSPS as we strongly believe that all student can and will learn. We know that when students have a growth mindset, they take on challenges more readily, which increases their abilities and achievement. We encourage productive struggle, we rejoice in the learning journey, we see mistakes as valuable contributions to the learning process and we celebrate effort, attitude and growth towards goals.

Classroom Learning:

Learning at CSPS is sequenced and from Prep through to Year 6, students are encouraged to pursue excellence in everything they do.
Teachers work and plan in collaborative teams to ensure a seamless educational experience for all students. Classroom teachers are responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of learning sequences in the areas of English, Mathematics and units of inquiry in History, Science, Geography, Economics, Technology and Health. An interdisciplinary approach is taken to enable students to deepen their learning, make connections and develop a comprehensive understanding.

Clifton Springs Primary School embraces a curriculum based on the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 F–10. The Victorian Curriculum 2.0 sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for lifelong learning, social development and active and informed citizenship. The Victorian Curriculum 2.0 F–10 incorporates the Australian Curriculum and reflects Victorian priorities and standards.

The Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0) brings the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) into the classroom. It creates a line of sight between the whole-school improvement approach and classroom practice.

The model allows teachers and school leaders to:

  • focus on high impact improvement initiatives
  • drive those initiatives through evidence-based decisions about their teaching and student learning.

Four components of the model

The Victorian Teaching and Learning Model consists of four components:

  • A vision for learning helps create a unified set of values and beliefs to drive a high performance learning culture.
  • The practice principles for excellence in teaching and learning (practice principles) are nine signature pedagogies which make the difference in improving student achievement and motivation.
  • The pedagogical model describes what effective teaching looks like in the classroom and helps teachers apply the practice principles.
  • The high impact teaching strategies (HITS) are ten instructional practices that reliably increase student learning wherever they are applied.

Each component articulates how FISO is enacted in teaching and learning

We place a strong emphasis on the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening and mathematics which is in line with the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0.

Goal Setting is an integral part of the learning journey for all students at CSPS.

Reporting to Parents

We have improved our reporting processes in recent times, to ensure they are timely, relevant and accurate.
We continue to provide Semester Reports which report on a Semester of learning, however have added 'Learning Tasks' that are 'live' reports that show student progress throughout each term. Reading, Writing & Maths Learning Tasks are pushed out on Compass each term.
