Curriculum Overview

It is our responsibility as educators to prepare learners for their future NOT our past

Our whole school curriculum is based on these beliefs and understandings:

All kids can learn but not in the same way and on the same day - Art Costa.

  • Activities and assessment are provided to cater for the different learning styles.
  • Strengthen kids abilities in "unpreferred learning styles".
  • Every student is an individual - every child begins at their "entry point" and builds upon and develops from there.
  • Importance of meaningful assessment.

Students are more likely to learn if they have ownership of their learning.

  • Negotiated activities.
  • Student devised activities.
  • 3 way interview, goal setting.

Importance of knowledge of "How the Brain Works".

  • Learning to Learn.
  • Optimum Learning Conditions.
  • Responsibility for own body and decisions.
  • Importance of the teacher knowledge - Kids don't know.
  • Graphic organisers.

"Kids don't know what kids don't know!

  • Importance of teachers, at times make decision about curriculum, content and activities (MUST DO'S).
  • Acknowledge importance of explicit teaching - providing the scaffolding (organisers).

Many occupations our students will be doing have not yet been invented!

  • Values.
  • Co-operative team working.
  • Importance of skills, not just knowledge.

The amount of knowledge in the world has developed over the last ten years.

Resource Smart

Sustainability is very important to us a Clifton Springs Primary School.  We are part of the AuSSI Vic ResourceSmart Schools program and we were recently awarded our first Star for completing our "Core Module".  We are aiming to be a 5 Star Sustainable School and we are currently working on getting our second star for the work we are doing on Energy.  One of the things we have done in relation to promoting ways you can save energy is made a comic book.  Below is a comic book we made in ECA (Ellective Curricular Activities) called "Volt and the Electro Ninjas V's The Black Balloons".  The quality is a little low because we had to shrink the file size way down to fit it on the website but the message is still good.
We hope you like it.
