Week 7-8 update

8/31/2016

Reading:

We have been learning how to create meaningful questions about a text before, during and after reading. This skill assists students with comprehension and understanding of a text and encourages students to be inquisitive about the texts they read. Examples of questions you can ask your child/ren include 'what does the title tell you?', 'what questions do you have during reading?', 'is there anything you are wondering about right now?' and 'what questions to you have when you finish reading?'. Why not try asking some of these questions while you are reading at home.

Writing:

We are starting to explore some wonderful poetry drafts full of rich, vibrant word choices and exciting ideas pouring out through students own voices. By now students have been immersed in a range of poems and have strategies in place for creating insightful, stunning poetry. Students should have these published by the end of this term so we will upload them to SeeSaw for you to see.

Maths:

Students have been exploring decimals this fortnight and have made connections to real life situations such as money, measurement and time. Students have explored tenths, hundredths and thousandths in the place value system and how they build towards one whole number.

Inquiry:

We have recently begun a new inquiry into 'Profit and Not for Profit Organisations and the effects they have on our community'. We look forward to the interesting wonderings students create throughout this topic and look forward to insightful presentations in the last week of Term 3.

District Athletics:

Congratulations to all students who competed in the District Athletics, proudly representing our school. For those who received a ribbon but were to young to qualify for the next level, we wish you luck next year. A great sign for the future!

Book Week:

Students had a great time dressing up for book week, with some outstanding book characters on display during our Book Week parade. It was great to see so many students and teachers involved. Thanks to the Grade 5/6 students who visited classes at lunchtime to read a book each day.

Camp:

Final notes for camp have been sent out this week with students. Please return these by Wednesday September 7th so that we can finalise camp details. Final payment due by Monday October 3rd.
