Management Update
Aus Alert Update
We’ve been advised that a national test of AusAlert will happen across Australia on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.
AusAlert is a new, national emergency warning system. It sends warning messages to compatible mobile devices during emergencies, to keep people informed so they can act quickly. The Australian Government plans to launch AusAlert in October 2026.
On Monday 27 July at 2 pm, all compatible mobile devices will receive a Critical Alert. Compatible mobile devices include phones, tablets, smart watches, safety watches and some vehicle devices. These will vibrate and make a loud, siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. This will happen even if they are on silent or do not disturb. The message will clearly state that it is a test. No action is required from the test.
To minimise disruption, student phones and smart devices should always be switched off and stored securely in lockers or bags during the school day. Students who use their mobile phone as part of a documented exception can continue to do so. If appropriate, they can turn their phone off during the test.
You may also wish to let your child know that if they see or hear the alert, school staff will support them. You can learn more at AusAlert: children and teens. Information is also available in other languages.
Safe phones
AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence. Alerts may expose safety devices.
If you or someone you know has a hidden device, the best way to stay safe during the test is to:
- turn off your mobile device or put it in aeroplane mode
- keep your device off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours.
Silent mode and do not disturb will not stop the alert.

Wellbeing and Engagement Update
At CSPS all Students Shine
All the teachers at CSPS focus on using positive language when they speak to students such as giving students constructive feedback, addressing behaviour, creating an atmosphere for receptive listening, and guiding students in resolving conflicts. It also helps make all students feel included and accepted – an important quality in any educational environment.
At CSPS, we also like to acknowledge and celebrate students for a range of skills, showing expected behaviours and participating in school challenges such as reading, eco challenge, colour fun run fundraising, cross country and the list goes on. By celebrating a range all children get an opportunity to shine.
The house competition this term is ‘Upcycling.’
Attendance – Top Attendance Tips for Parents
Schools want to work in partnership with parents – act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child’s school and asking for advice and support. Just a reminder as we are into the colder months.
* Remember that every day counts
* There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness
* Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day
* Open and prompt communication with your child’s school about all absences is a good idea
* Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term
* Seek help from your school if you are concerned about your child’s attendance and wellbeing.
We will be giving out certificates in class to students who have managed to attend school at or above expected attendance levels for the first part of the year.
We will also do a draw at each assembly this term. A student with 100% attendance for the previous 2 weeks, name will be drawn for each class. They will be able to select a prize. This week’s assembly is P-2.
Parent Education Session – Term 3
We are continuing our commitment to support parents and families with parent education sessions. Next Tuesday 28th July, 6.30-7.30pm we will run our term 3 information session. The session will be run by I Can Network ‘Practical Strategies for Supporting students with Neurodivergent needs’. Supervision will be provided onsite if you need to bring children along.
Curriculum Update
DIP into DIP for 2027 Prep students Term 3
CSPS pride themselves in their extensive transition program for Preps. This term’s transition will include three Dip into DIP sessions for our 2027 preps:
Monday 10th August 2.30 – 3.25 pm
Monday 24th August 2.30 – 3.25 pm
Monday 7th September 2.30 – 3.25 pm
Parents are welcome to come along with their children and participate in these sessions whilst the new students get used to being in the school environment.
Please if you have a Prep child to enrol for 2027 make sure you get those enrolment forms in to the front office so we know numbers for 2027.
NAPLAN 2026
NAPLAN was conducted in term 1 this year and individual results were given out this week.
NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:
These are:
· exceeding
· strong
· developing
· needs additional support.
Students’ NAPLAN reports show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be in order to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child/ren.
Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them – these results are about making sure every student gets the support they need so they can continue to get the best from their learning.
