Student Learning
The child is at the centre of all learning at Clifton Springs Primary School and learning sequences are developed with the needs, interests, skills and understanding of the child being the first consideration.
At Clifton Springs Primary School, we believe students learn best when they:
The CSPS learning community nurtures an environment in which students are encouraged to personalise their learning through goal setting, student choice and collaborative learning. A broad, balanced and innovative curriculum is offered, which is academically challenging and focuses on the development of fundamental skills, understanding and knowledge in the core learning areas, with a particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Through targeted, open-ended and differentiated learning experiences, teachers provide structure and support for students that allow them to move to the next level of learning, appropriate to their stage of development.
A growth mindset underpins all learning at CSPS as we strongly believe that all student can and will learn. We know that when students have a growth mindset, they take on challenges more readily, which increases their abilities and achievement. We encourage productive struggle, we rejoice in the learning journey, we see mistakes as valuable contributions to the learning process and we celebrate effort, attitude and growth towards goals.
Classroom Learning:
Learning at CSPS is sequenced and from Prep through to Year 6, students are encouraged to pursue excellence in everything they do.
Teachers work and plan in collaborative teams to ensure a seamless educational experience for all students. Classroom teachers are responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of learning sequences in the areas of English, Mathematics and units of inquiry in History, Science, Geography, Economics, Technology and Health. An interdisciplinary approach is taken to enable students to deepen their learning, make connections and develop a comprehensive understanding.
Clifton Springs Primary School embraces a curriculum based on the Victorian Curriculum F–10. The Victorian Curriculum sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for lifelong learning, social development and active and informed citizenship.
