Maths
Students at Clifton Springs Primary School are engaged in a range of learning experiences that will develop skills, understandings and confidence to be successful mathematicians today and in the future.
At CSPS students explore, engage in and develop important mathematical ideas, knowledge and skills that they will draw on in their lives. We focus on providing students with hands on learning experiences using a wide variety of resources to support and develop their understanding of key concepts in Mathematics. Real-life situations are integral in enabling our students to apply the proficiencies of fluency, understanding, problem solving and reasoning across all areas of Mathematics.
The Mathematics curriculum strands are Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. These are explored through differentiated learning experiences that cater for and target individual learning needs, abilities and interests. The ‘Launch, Explore, Summarise’ framework is used to plan lessons that immerse students in an environment of inquiry that promotes structured and purposeful investigations in realistic contexts.
Mathematics is also reinforced in other learning areas as students engage in a range of learning activities that develop useful mathematical and numeracy skills for everyday life.
The staff and student at CSPS identified the following characteristics of effective Mathematics learners:
