Welcome
Hi and welcome to the 5/6 team blog for Term 2, 2016. Over the course of the year, we will be posting on here fortnightly, to keep you up to date with the happenings within our team. We are very excited about our new blog and hope that you, the families, enjoy seeing what your child is up to at Clifton Springs Primary School.
Maths
All of the 5/6 classes have been studying measurement. We have developed our understanding on perimeter and area this week and next week we will be focusing on volume and capacity.
Reading
During our Reader's Workshop, we have been looking at Text Structures and Features. We have been developing our knowledge particularly on the structures and features of poetry, picture storybooks, procedural texts and information reports. Next week we will extend our understanding by identifying clues in text structures to help us with recognising what type of text we are reading. We will also be focusing on the structures and features in a big book, an atlas, a dictionary and a magazine.
Writing
Our Writers Workshop sessions have been busy! We have been extending our understanding of Persuasive Writing with a strong focus on the structure of persuasive texts and the word choice. With ANZAC Day this week we decided to write persuasive pieces on a statement in relation to ANZAC Day. Our Writer’s Notebooks have been filled with Ideas, which has then progressed to Entries, flowing into Drafting and finishing with a convincing Published piece.
Inquiry
Have you heard about our Science Expo? The 5/6 Team have been extremely busy with their Sustainability Assessment, focusing on our Big Idea; People interact with, use and value the natural environment in different ways. We have a whole range of exciting displays for our Science Expo, from Dioramas, Short Films, Posters, Role Play and Stop Motions. The Science Expo will be on Friday the 6th of May from 12pm-1pm, we hope to see you there!
