Sports Academy
Our CSPS Sports Academy began in 2015 and has evolved into an exciting and integral part of our school. It consists of 18 students from year 6 and in 2018 will be run by our Phys. Ed. guru Mr Thompson.
HOW DO GET IN THE SPORTS ACADEMY?
Students are selected after an application and interview process. Successful applicants must be terrific role models in the school, have a passion for sport and health and be willing to take on some extra responsibility during the school year.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
The Sports Academy have a session each week with Mr Thompson. These sessions range from skill training in sports not in the usual curriculum (European Handball, indigenous sports, trampolining, tennis, etc). Sessions also involve preparing and cooking healthy meals as part of learning about nutrition. Recipes then go in the school newsletter.
EXTRA RESPONSIBILITIES
In 2018, the Sports Academy students will again take on the role of coordinating and running the morning fitness sessions with our P-2 classes. In pairs, the Sports Academy students put the younger students through their paces each morning and do a wonderful job. The P-2 students love it too!
EXCURSIONS
Recently, the Sports Academy students have been lucky enough to have a number of major excursions! Stand Up Paddleboarding at Barwon Heads was a real highlight, as was Supatramp & Crossfit. We look forward to more excursions in the future.
