You may have heard of the software program 'Compass'. We had 2 parent information sessions recently which were very positive and I thought I'd put some more information on this blog for those who couldn't make it.
WHAT IS COMPASS?
Essentially, Compass is a web based software program that we decided to go with (after much research) for the start of 2015. It is user friendly and can do a range of useful things. Staff began using it last year with the main purposes being roll marking, semester reporting and daily bulletins. We are now about to launch the most exciting part......'Live Reporting'. This is where the parent access comes in to play.
WHAT IS LIVE REPORTING?
Live Reporting means we will be moving away from just giving you written feedback on how your children are going at school twice per year - the end of each semester. These semester reports will still continue, and this is where you will still receive 'the dots' and the letter ratings (these things are mandated by the Department of Education). However you will now also receive information and evidence along the way as to how your child is going in different areas of schooling - 'Live Reporting'.
HOW DO I GET ONTO COMPASS?
In the next couple of weeks, you will receive log in details to Compass, where you will create your own password and be able to log in to your family page. On this page you will be able to see things like your child's attendance, a link to the newsletter, bulleting items, the school calendar of events, and LEARNING TASKS.
Live Reporting will be done through Learning Tasks. Teachers will upload a description of each Learning Task and you will see your child's work via a photo or video. You will also see the assessment of that piece of work and a teacher comment. The first learning task will go 'live' later this term. It will be a Mathematics task. Another maths Learning Task will follow in term 4.
WHERE TO NEXT?
Along with your log in details, you will also receive an instruction booklet which will outline how to access Learning Tasks and other aspects of Compass. Of course, if there any questions please feel free to see your child's teacher or myself.
Very exciting times. Stay tuned for your information pack coming up!!!
